My yellow paintings have become a bit of a trademark for me and I’m often asked what inspired the yellow/this choice of colour.

They were actually inspired after I decorated Anna Friel’s house, all in mustard yellow about 10 years ago.
. We trawled through swatches of Farrow and Ball paint over a cup of tea and decided on a really vibrant, warm, mustard yellow.
I painted her house for a week solid and then went back to my studio looking for inspiration. – having stared at a powerful yellow for a week, I predictably started experimenting with a yellow background in my work.
There’s more to the yellow than you might think and getting the luminosity has taken years to develop.
